Cydar Medical is on a mission to make every endovascular surgery procedure work successfully to ensure the best possible outcome for patients.
Endovascular surgery is a minimally invasive operation to treat problems affecting blood vessels, such as an aneurysm (swelling or ‘ballooning’). It involves inserting a stent-graft (a fabric covered tube) through the patient’s arteries in a catheter, positioning it inside their main artery. Once in place, the graft expands and prevents blood flowing to the aneurysm, allowing blood to flow more freely from the heart down through the chest and stomach. During the operation, an X-ray is shown live on a screen to help the doctor place the stent-graft precisely.
Using ground-breaking technology, Cydar has created an accurate, responsive and patient-specific 3D map that overlays the X-ray and helps surgeons view the blood vessels more clearly. The 3D map responds to the surgical process, working a bit like a live GPS satellite navigation system that guides the surgeon through the vessels to insert the stent-graft with greater accuracy and safety.
Before this technology, the only way to see blood vessels clearly on the X-ray was to inject the patient with a potentially harmful contrast dye.
Using Cydar’s 3D image-tracking means:
- less radiation exposure for patients and clinical teams
- safer and more robust surgical procedures
- more consistent and better clinical outcomes
- easier and faster surgical operations
As a result of shorter operating times, hospitals also benefit from a more efficient use of their resources.
