Cydar was founded in 2012 by vascular surgeon Tom Carell and imaging scientist Graeme Penney. The company aims to address the difficulties surgeons had visualising “image-guided” procedures and the resulting inconsistencies in patient care. To address this, Cydar has developed technology to help surgeons plan endovascular surgery by creating pre-operative maps. The current CEO, Paul Mussenden, is commercialising the software and increasing subscriptions with NHS hospitals – this in turn will make surgeries easier and quicker to perform, benefiting both patients and hospitals.
