Downing Sustainable Investment (“DSI”) has acquired a portfolio of around 2,900 domestic rooftop solar installations which provide electricity to tenants of 6 housing associations across Yorkshire, the East Midlands and East Anglia.
This is DSI’s second investment, following its acquisition last year of the land and associated lease income related to a c.200MW operational onshore wind farm in the Scottish Highlands.
DSI, which is managed by Downing LLP, is an investment vehicle designed specifically for charitable institutions. DSI’s mandate is to provide access to renewable energy investments that can deliver a broader positive environmental impact as well as regular attractive returns that can support a charity’s day-to-day investment objectives.
Mehal Shah, Investment Director at Downing, said:
“This latest acquisition diversifies DSI, which now has exposure to UK wind and solar assets. We are excited about DSI’s prospects; long-term investments into core renewables can be a great fit for charities who are seeking to generate a return from an asset class that contributes to the UK’s journey to net zero.”
