Sustainable investment manager Downing LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Booth, a former Director at M&G. Richard will join as a Fund Manager in Downing’s expanding Capital Solutions team, which was established earlier this year.

Richard will link up with Downing’s Head of Downing Capital Solutions, Paul Taylor, and industry veteran, Nick Burley. Downing’s Capital Solutions team will launch a series of new investment activities and funds, managing capital on behalf of institutional investors.

With over 20 years of investment experience, Richard’s expertise will add further strategic and transactional excellence to the team. Richard previously spent 10 years at M&G working as a Fund Manager and Director focusing on fixed-income opportunities. During his tenure at M&G, he was instrumental in building areal estate opportunity platform in Dublin, which attracted over €1bn of institutional capital and invested in complex residential and commercial projects. Prior to M&G, Richard spent 10 years at KPMG.

The Capital Solutions team will deploy funds from institutional investors into opportunities with high return potential, in sectors such as healthcare services in the private equity space and European real estate, where the team has strong investor and investee networks.

Richard Booth, Fund Manager, Downing LLP, said: “I am delighted to be joining Downing’s Capital Solutions team, which has great potential to deliver attractive returns to investors. I’m looking forward to supporting the team’s expansion and future success and am excited to be joining a firm that has such a strong commitment to sustainable investing.”

Paul Taylor, Head of Downing Capital Solutions, Downing LLP: “Richard’s appointment is another important step forward in the establishment of our new Capital Solutions strategy. His expertise in strategy and investment will further strengthen our capabilities to identify and manage attractive investment opportunities on behalf of institutional investors.”

Torsten Mack, Investment Director at Downing, said:

"We are proud to support this exceptional management team, whose strong track record positions them well to build a new business in dementia care. This needs-based sector is underpinned by a lack of quality supply and we are investing in Fortava Healthcare to set and deliver high standards, and to help make a difference."

Johann van Zyl, CEO at Fortava, added:

"I’m thrilled to be working with Jamie, as we share the same values. We plan to grow Fortava into a leading provider of dementia care over the next five to seven years. But growth isn’t our primary focus—our goal is to deliver outstanding care and foster a joyful, supportive environment for both residents and staff. We’re delighted to be partnering with Downing who also share our values and we look forward to this journey with them."

Jamie Stuart, CFO at Fortava, commented:

“For me, it's about being more than just another care home provider. While dementia care in the UK is generally of a good standard, we want to set ourselves apart with a fresh approach. That’s why, after over 25 years in banking, I chose to partner with Johann and Downing on this venture.”
